August 22, 2011 — NEW YORK (AP) — Former NBC newsman Ayman Mohyeldin is returning to the network where he started his career a decade ago.
Mohyeldin, who will be based in Cairo and cover the Middle East, rejoins NBC next month, the network announced Monday. He comes from Al Jazeera English, where he has been a correspondent for five years. There he covered Arab revolutions, Israeli politics and human rights abuses in the Arabian Gulf. Prior to that, he worked for Fox News and CNN.
He began his journalism career in 2001 at NBC News as a desk assistant in the network's Washington bureau. Mohyeldin was born in Cairo and grew up in Detroit, Amman, Jordan, and Marietta, Ga.
